The Four Different Types Of Learners

When one thinks back of their school days what prominently comes to mind are the hundreds of pages we had to cram for every test and exam. And in an effort to score the maximum number of marks some of us resorted to all types of tricks like flashcards, different methods to memorize material or resorting to simply copying from the bright student sitting to you.

Classmates may have debated about which method was best to learn all the text but the fact of the matter is there is no one single method to learn and one size does not fit all. But educational experts have developed different models to understand various ways that people learn best.

One popular theory is the VARK model that identifies four primary types of learners: visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. Each learning type responds best to a different method of teaching.

Here are four different type of learning methods explained in detail according to the VARK chart.

1. Visual leaners: These type of learners prefer to see the information and visualize the relationship between the different ideas.
Tactic: Give this type of kids charts, graphics etc and make the presentations highly visual colourful and show different relationships between the various ideas.

2. Auditory learners: They will remember information best when it is recited to them rather than having it visually presented to them.
Tactic: Auditory learners like to recite info out loudly. Give them an opportunity to read the text back to you and ask them questions that call for audience answers.

3. Reading/Writing learners: The students fall into the traditional mode of reading learning by heart and then writing down the text.
Tactic: Give them material that they can read and learn and then write down from memory all that they have learned.

4. Kinesthetic learners: These students will jump at the chance to participate in a hands-on activity like reading and writing and interacting with the text as compared to  visual or audio methods.
Tactic: Give these kids quizzes and to answer and interact with the quiz-master. Let them participate in the presentations and group discussions.
