Summer Care for Kids in UAE – It’s time to put on a reminder
Finding ourselves in summers of Arabian Peninsula can be very trying, where the temperature can reach up to +42⁰ C and sometimes even higher with 11 hours of sundial in the day. Being on summer vacation with several pros and cons, kids are more prone to spend their fun-time outdoors but it is important to keep a checklist for our little ones to be safe while they are having fun. So, it’s time to put on a reminder bulletin on your fridge.
As we are well aware, our skin and body change with every climatic condition which very well applies to our kid’s skin and body too. Let’s now look upon few health hazards that can be prevented with precautions. It can take a little up to 15 minutes and thoughtful effort to protect skin from sunburn and injury.
- Keep Sunscreen handy: Apply sunscreen on all exposed parts of body atleast 30 minutes before heading out. It is important to use a generous amount of UVA and UVB blocking sunscreen with SPF of atleast 15. Remember! An ounce of sunscreen will not stay on our skin the whole day, so, reapply the sunscreen every two hours or more after swimming or sweating.
- Clothing Matters: Sun Protective clothing is recommended to avoid sunburns and heat stroke. Dress your kids in cotton clothes and hats. Look for kid’s sunshades that block 99 or 100 percent of UVA and UVB that will protect your kid’s eye from harmful sun rays.
- Food Safety: Bacteria or germs multiply faster in warmer temperatures and humidity, hence foodborne illness increase during summer. To prevent it wisely, be sure to wash your hands before preparing or serving food and never allow any raw meat or poultry to come into contact with other food items, plates or utensils. Also, cook your food at an appropriate temperature which will kill any harmful bacteria and do not leave any leftovers unattended.
- Beat the heat: It is advisable to stay indoors from 10 am to 2 pm when the day is hottest. Use this time for art-activities, indoor swimming pools or take a nap. Give cooler baths and showers to avoid skin damage and stay hygienic and this will also help the kids stay refreshed. Drinking lots of water is one of the best things to stay hydrated and fruits like watermelon are the best summer snack.
Always be ahead and remember children cannot understand about summer sun or skin care until you teach them!
As their parent, guide them so that they have fun in more comfortable ways and teach them the importance to protect themselves at all times which will pay off far in the future.
